History of German Shepherd Dogs

"From Sheep Herding to Popular Companion" The breed was developed by Max von Stephanitz using various traditional German herding dogs from 1899. It was originally bred as a herding dog, for herding sheep. Observing the intelligence & utility of German farm dogs, Stephanitz sought to standardize the breed with focus on traits like intelligence, speed, and strength. The GSD has since been used in many other types of work, including disability assistance, search & rescue, police work, and warfare. A popular saying in the GSD world, "There are wolves, there are dogs, and then there are German Shepherd Dogs."
